Ongoing Volunteering Opportunities
Swing Dance Calgary, being a non-profit organization, is run entirely by the help of our members, aka volunteers. The benefits of volunteering include; a HUGE thank you from everyone in the scene (warm fuzzies!), keeping the costs down for everyone including yourself, ability to plump the volunteer section of your resume, and satisfaction of a volunteer task well done.
As wiki says, Volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others without being motivated by financial or material gain. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good or improve human quality of life. People also volunteer to gain skills without requiring an employer’s financial investment.
SDC Volunteering Opportunities
First Fridays
SDC is currently running a bar for First Fridays and other larger events, with profits going towards our First Friday decorations. We are looking for volunteers to help us run the bar during the dance, for a one hour shift. Please let Tim or Amber know if you’re interested in helping out.
Social Coordinator
The community has requested that SDC promote more social activities amongst swing dancers. We’re looking for someone to take on this role. As it hasn’t really existed before, it can be anything you like, but potentially you’ll be inviting people to live music events on facebook, you’ll be coordinating follow gatherings and lead gatherings, and generally you’ll be the maker of fun times. TTS Volunteering Opportunities
The ‘A’ Train
Please let Matthew Isenor (contact TTS) know if you’re interested in helping out, as he is currently running The ‘A’ Train dance. This dance requires volunteers weekly, so he’d appreciate your help! Usual available positions include; Door Greeters, Host Dancers, DJs, Set-up and Take down assistance.
